Most of these color sketches were created as prototype artwork that would promote the product for distributors only prior to their publication. Den's color sketches were forwarded to various artist such as Brom or other in house artists at TSR to reproduce full scale for the final publication. In a few cases Den's actual color sketches were additionally used for the final product as they looked good enough even though only illustrated as sketches.
